WELLS MEN LOSE HEARTBREAKER IN DOUBLE OVERTIME

Aurora, New York – The Hilbert College men's soccer team scored the game winning goal with just 26-seconds left in the second overtime as the Wells College men's soccer team lost to Hilbert 3-2 Friday at Wells. The Express were led by Justin Rigney (NY, NY) who had a goal and an assist; while Hilbert was led by goalie Scott Walker (Rochester, NY) who finished with 10 saves.

Rigney would get the scoring started for Wells as he scored an unassisted goal at the 17:13 mark of the first half to give the Express a 1-0 lead. Hilbert would respond when Eric Russell (Marilla, NY) fed a pass to Mike Gabor (Cheektowaga, NY) who blasted a shot short side at 30:11 to tie the game at 1.

Hilbert would take the lead in the second half on a goal by Ed Heffron (Williamsville, NY) at 59:05, but Wells would mount a rally, peppering Walker for 15 shots in the second half. With the Express down 2-1 and less than five minutes left in regulation, freshmen Delroy Roberts (Schenectady, NY) was able to beat Walker to tie the game at two. Each team would exchange shots in the double-overtime, but it would be Quinn Rola (Hamburg, NY) who would find the back of the net with just 26-seconds left in overtime to seal the win for Hilbert.

With the loss Wells falls to 3-7-2 while Hilbert improves to 4-9-0.

The Express will next play against D'Youville College on Saturday, October 25, at 4:00pm at D'Youville.
