MEN'S SOCCER HAS STRONG SHOWING AT POTSDAM TOURNAMENT

Wells College participated in the SUNY Potsdam Bears Classic over the weekend. In the first game Justin Rigney  (New York, NY) scored two goals to lead Wells College to a 3-0 victory over SUNY Canton in Saturday's opening game of the tournament. Alioune Sene (Dakar, Senegal) tallied his first goal of the season to complete the scoring for Wells. Goalkeeper Mike Birklin had one save to pick up the win for Wells.

In Wells second game of the tournament, against Potsdam, both teams played to a tough 1-1 tie in a very physical game.

James Edsall scored Potsdam's only goal at the 79:48 mark and was assisted by Mark McCloskey.  Corey Fischer from Wells tied the game at 86:14. It was Mike Birklin who kept Wells in the game tallying nine saves on 16 shots.

There were a total of 38 fouls in the game. Potsdam received three yellow cards with Wells receiving two yellow cards and a red card that led to the ejection of Ryan Huggins.

The Men's Soccer team will travel to Cortland on Wednesday, September 3, at 7:00 pm to take on Cortland State.
