EXPRESS RUN OVER ALFRED

Aurora, New York – The Wells College Men's Soccer Team rebounded from an early deficit and scored three unanswered goals, including two from Delroy Roberts (Schenectady, NY), as the Express defeated Alfred University 3-1 Wednesday afternoon at Wells. Alioune Sene (Dakar, Senegal) also scored a goal for the Express.

Stephen Barton (Dansville, NY) got the scoring started just a minute into the game when sliding Express goalie Mike Birklin (Cicero, NY) had the ball bounce off his chest right to Barton who finished the play off with a goal. The Express got on the board in the 24th minute off a Patrick Arancio (Clinton, NY) pass to Roberts in the box that he finished to tie the game at one. Roberts would again find himself on the score sheet less than ten minutes later when he danced through the Alfred defense and hit a laser shot to the lower left corner to give the Express a 2-1 lead. Sene would finish off Alfred in the 64th minute when he lofted a shot from 20 feet outside the goal over the head of Alfred goalie Elliot Thorpe (Highlands R., CO) to extend the lead to 3-1.

With the win the Express improve to 3-3-1 while Alfred earned its ninth straight loss, falling to a record of 0-9-0 on the year.

Wells will next play at Keuka College on Saturday, September 27, at 1:00 pm at Keuka.
