WILDCATS HOLD ON FOR 2-1 VICTORY

(Utica, N.Y.) ─  The Wells College men's soccer  team had an early 1-0 lead slip away as the SUNY IT Wildcats came back to earn a 2-1 victory in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action Saturday in Utica. Justin Rigney (New York, N.Y./Beacon) scored the lone goal for the Express, while Aaron Brody (Commack, N.Y./Commack) finished with five saves in net. The loss drops the Express to 2-3-1 in the NEAC and 4-6-2 overall, while the Wildcats improve to 6-0 and 9-3 overall.

Wells quickly took the lead in the first half when Rigney punched in goal off a deflection two minutes and thirty five seconds into the contest, and that would prove to be the only score of the half.

The Wildcats were able to tie it up five minutes into the second half when senior Jason Conklin (Cooperstown, NY/Cooperstown) scored on a header off a corner kick delivered by junior Dennis Gyimah (Bronx, NY/Mohawk Valley CC).  Five minutes later, sophomore Chris Staulters (Broadalbin, NY/Galway) would then score on a blast from the top of the box to give SUNYIT a 2-1 lead.  That would prove to be enough as the Wildcats were able to hang on for the victory.

SUNYIT freshman goalie Malick Faye (Bronx, NY/MLK) made three saves in the victory.

The Express return to action Sunday, October 17 as they travel to take on Utica College at 3:00 p.m. in Utica.
