UTICA TOPS EXPRESS, 3-1

(Utica, N.Y.)─ The Utica College Pioneers scored two early goals and then held on to defeat the Wells men's soccer team 3-1 in a non-conference tilt Sunday afternoon in Utica. Patrick O'Callaghan (Seldon, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) scored the lone goal for the Express. The loss drops the Express to 4-8-2, while the Pioneers improve to 10-4-1.

Trevor Hoxie scored in the 17th minute to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. Kevin McAllister added a late goal just before the end of the first half to give Utica the 2-0 lead at the break.

Wells climbed back into the game in the 62nd minute. O'Callaghan took advantage of a misplayed clear attempt by the Pioneer goalie and drove it into the lower right corner of the goal to trim the lead, 2-1.

The Pioneers came right back as Roberto Sgueglia came in on the Express goal untouched, scoring on a shot to the upper left corner at 73:28 as Utica went on to the 3-1 victory.

The Express take to the pitch next against Keuka College on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in Aurora.
