PANTHERS SHUTOUT EXPRESS

(Aurora, N.Y.)─  The Wells College men's soccer team played a dominating game but fell short in the one category that counted most as the visiting Pitt. Bradford Panthers walked away with a 2-0 victory on Thursday afternoon in Aurora. Scott Pastorius (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) and Toby Abdul-Razaq (Glenside, Pa./Abington) each scored for the Panthers, while Adam Forster (Marietta, Pa./Donegal) finished eight saves. The Panthers improve to 1-3-1, while the loss drops the Express to 3-4.

It was a frustrating day for the Express as they would fire 21 shots at the Panther goal but unlucky bounces and a few blocked shots would make all the difference in a game that had the Panthers take advantage of the few chances they had. Having managed just one shot on goal through the first 27:06, the Panthers would streak down the field and score for a 1-0 lead on just their second shot and first on net.

The Express continued to threaten the entire game as multiple scoring chances would be stopped by the Panther defense. The Express best chance to tie the game came at 78:52 as Justin Rigney would come streaking in from the left side and attempt to tuck the ball past Forster who made the initial save but would have the ball slip behind him giving Rigney the opportunity to knock the rebound in. As Rigney went into to a slide to reach the ball a Panther defender came rushing over to block the shot and preserve the one goal lead.

The Panthers would put the game away late as Abdul-Razaq beat the Wells defense on clear by the his own defense and scored on a breakaway with 2:23 remaining to seal the win. Despite the loss, the Express held the advantage in shots 21-8 and corner kicks 4-3.

The Express return to action on Tuesday, September 21 against Alfred University at 4:00 p.m. in Aurora.
