EXPRESS TOPS ABINGTON 2-1

(Aurora, N.Y.)─   The Wells College men's soccer team battled back from 3-0 deficit to within one goal (3-2) only to see Elsion Pajollari (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) score his second goal of the game with 32 seconds remaining as the Penn. St. Abington Nittany Lions held on for the 4-2 North Eastern Athletic Conference victory Sunday afternoon in Aurora, N.Y. Justin Rigney (New York/Beacon) and Delroy Roberts (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) each scored one goal for the Express, while Matt Howard (Rockledge, Pa./Abinton) finished with two goals for the Nittany  Lions. With the loss the Express fall to 3-3 (1-1 NEAC), while Abington improves to 2-1-1 (1-0-1 NEAC).

Abington would attack first, drawing a corner kick 49 second into the game. The Nittany Lions immediately took advantage of the situation as the corner kick dropped into the box, deflecting to Howard who sent a shot past diving Express goalie CJ Bayly (Waymart, Pa/Western Wayne) for a 1-0 lead. Less than two minutes later Pajollari would score from 20 yards out on a direct kick as the Nittany Lions would take a commanding 2-0 lead. But the Nittany Lions were not finished as Howard scored at 20:26, extending the Abington lead to 3-0.

Facing a three goal deficit, it was clear from the Express play they were not going down without a fight. In the 69th minute all of the Express' hard work started to pay off as Rigney beat a defender to the ball and scored on a low shot underneath sprawling goalie Kyle Ejsmont (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) to trim the Abington lead to 3-1. Wells continued to press the Nittany Lions in the offensive zone and a goal by Roberts at 81:40 had swung the momentum to the Express, who now found themselves down by one goal, 3-2.

Despite the pressure from the Express, the Nittany Lions remained calmed and with less than a minute remaining Pajollari would find his way into Wells territory and deliver a back breaking goal with seconds remaining as Abington staved off the comeback and held on for the 4-2 victory.

The Express return to action on Thursday, September 16 against Pitt-Bradford at 5:00 p.m. in Aurora, N.Y.
