GLENMONT, N.Y. - Sage hosted the Express of Wells College on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference men's soccer match. The Gators tallied a 2-0 win to improve to 5-2-1, while Wells drops to 5-2.
Sage's squad took a 1-0 halftime lead as sophomore Chris Catania (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) converted the feed off a corner kick from sophomore Chris Peralta (Wyandanch, NY/Martin Luther King, Jr.) at 34:13.
The Express challenged Sage's sophomore goalie Tim Madden (Watertown, NY/Watertown) several times in the second half, but the keeper held tough and got some offensive support in the final minutes of play. Sophomore midfielder Wesley Finch (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) blasted a free kick that skimmed the fingertips of Well's sophomore goalie C.J. Bayly (Waymart, PA/Western Wayne) for a goal.
Finch leads the Gators this fall with a personal-best six goals.
Madden earned the shutout win as he finished with five saves and is now 3-2-1 in goal. Bayly drops to 5-2 in net with his two goals allowed and five saves on Saturday.
The Express return to action next Saturday when they welcome NEAC opponent Penn. St. Harrisburg to campus for a 3 p.m. start in Aurora.
