Men’s Soccer Drops Non-Conference Tilt To SUNY Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Wells College men's soccer team posted a 4-0 non-conference loss to the Red Dragons of SUNY Cortland Tuesday evening at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improve to 7-7-1 overall on the year following the game, snapping a three game losing streak dating back to Friday, Oct. 5. The Express fall to 7-6 overall on the season following the non-conference contest.

Within the game's first 13 minutes, the Red Dragons already established a 2-0 lead on the Express. Sam Kirschenbaum fired home a rebound that caromed off of C.J. Bayly (Waymart, Pa.) following an initial shot by SUNY Cortland for the game's first goal. With 32:12 remaining in the first half, Chris McBride scored his sixth goal of the season and the Red Dragons second goal of the game. McBride broke up the left side and pushed the ball past Bayly, who made an effort to cut down the angle on the charging Red Dragons player.

John Recordon extended the Red Dragons' lead to 3-0 with 18:32 remaining in the second half. A powerful blast on net by Recordon was accidentally redirected past Bayly for the strike. Andres Padilla scored his first goal of the season to add additional insurance for the Red Dragons. Deep within the Express goal box, Padilla was able to fire off a tough angle shot that caught the upper right 90 and evaded the grasp of Bayly.

Padilla's goal marked only the first time the Express have allowed four goals on the year and the first time they have allowed four opposing strikes dating back to Sunday, Oct. 9 against Utica at home in a 4-2 loss.

Bayly (6-6) collects his sixth loss of the season, halting seven of 11 shots on goal that he faced. SUNY Cortland goalkeeper Robert Emmett earned his first victory of the year, turning aside all two shots on net.

The Express return to action Saturday, Oct. 20 as they travel to play Morrisville State University in a 7:00 p.m. tilt.
