AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College men's and women's soccer programs hosted some familiar faces on campus this past weekend, welcoming back alumni from both programs to participate in alumni games. Head Coaches Dan Kane and Jamie Trudeau of the men's and women's soccer teams, respectively, invited back former players to participate in a friendly match pitting current Wells student-athletes against the Express student-athletes of yesteryear.

For the men's alumni team, Kane was able to welcome back 15-of-17 of his team's alumni, ranging as far back as the program's inception prior to the 2006 athletic season.

In the men's alumni game that took place at noontime, the current men's soccer team was able to shut down the Wells alumni via a 7-2 score. Freshman Max Cherry (Ridgewood, N.J.) got the scoring started for the incumbent players, capitalizing on a goaltending miscue to place his team ahead in the early goings. The "old timers" quickly countered, utilizing a goal from Wells all-time scoring leader Delroy Roberts, who forced home a feed from Blasdimil Gomez '11 for the equalizer.

Upcoming sophomores Wyatt Buerkle (Cincinnatus, N.Y.) and Alex Essandoh (Ithaca, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals for the current squad of players before midfielder J.P. Rosas '12 headed home a ball past Dominic Finch (Orlando, Fla.) for his team's second goal of the game. Buerkle struck for two additional goals while Essandoh and Levi Christman (Sharon Springs, N.Y.) added markers.

For the women's soccer team, the Express and their returning alumni were able to play 11 vs. 11 and field two strong squads. The returning players for the 2013 season were able to secure a 4-1 victory over the alumni team – the game was close through the first two 30 minute periods, but the tandem of Paige Stone (Madison, N.Y.) and Shannon Blanford (Fayetteville, N.Y.) chipped home late strikes to elevate the returners to victory.

Amanda Heterbring '09 scored the lone goal for the alumni as she was able to beat current Express netminder Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) for her team's only goal. Claire Petersen '09 played in goal for the alumni team – Peterson ranks second all-time in program history with 464 career saves to her credit.

The Express would like to thank all of the men's and women's soccer alumni who participated in the alumni game – their unwavering support of Wells College is much appreciated: Nick Accordino '10, Seyda Akyuz '11, Braden Allen '11, Patrick Arancio '12, Mike Birklin '10, Court Carnahan '10, Samantha Civilette '11, Jamie-Leigh Csizmar '10, Blasdimil Gomez '11, Amanda Heterbring '09, Ryan Huggins '12, John Iapoce '11, David Kaus '12, Daisha King '09, Megan Lawrence '12, Rachel Mattraw '12, Luke Miller '13, Claire Petersen '09, Toren Reaves '10, Delroy Roberts '12, J.P.
