Men's Soccer Triples Up Oswego State, 3-1

AURORA, N.Y. – Six different players recorded a point for the Wells College men's soccer team as they rolled to a 3-1 victory over the Lakers of Oswego State College Saturday morning at the South Athletic Field. The Express, ranked 10th in the East Region of Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, improve to 5-1-1 overall on the year following the non-conference contest. The Lakers (0-4-1) remain winless on the season.

Sophomore Tyler Morris (Maryland, N.Y.) scored the second game-winning goal of his career at 64:47 of regulation time, heading home a ball off of an Adam Sullivan (Ithaca, N.Y.) corner kick to place Wells ahead by a 2-1 margin in the second half. Freshman J. Tyler Adams (Eastampton, N.J.) scored his second goal of the season at 70:15 of the second half, elevating the Express to a 3-1 lead that they would not relinquish.

With a goal only 19 seconds into the game, junior Alexander Essandoh (Accra, Ghana, Africa) scored the fastest goal in Wells College men's soccer history to place the hosts on top in the early goings. The program record for fastest goal was previously held by Derek Wheeler '10, who scored 1:33 into the Sept. 12, 2008 contest against Utica. The fastest goal by an opposing player came on Sept. 9, 2009 as Alexander Rouse scored only 27 seconds into play for Medaille.

Alongside three different goal scorers, the Express had three different players secure an assist as senior Pat O'Callaghan (Selden, N.Y.), Sullivan and freshman Jesse Constantino (Cincinnatus, N.Y.) each picked up helpers on the three Wells goals.

Jim Manton scored his first goal of the season for Oswego in the 36th minute, tying the game at one apiece entering halftime. Cumulatively, the Lakers outshot the Express by a 24-to-9 margin and also has six corners as opposed to three for the home team.

Wells goalkeeper C.J. Bayly (Waymart, Pa.) picked up the victory between the pipes, halting 12-of-13 shots on goal for his 22nd career victory. Jon Runge allowed three goals on six total shots for Oswego State to draw the loss.

The Express hit the road Wednesday, Sept. 25 as they face-off against the Hawks of Hilbert College in a 2:00 p.m. contest.
