AURORA, N.Y. – Seven different players recorded a point as the Wells College men's soccer team posted a 5-0 shutout victory over the Pioneers of Alfred State College Sunday afternoon at the South Athletic Field. With the victory, the Express improve to 6-2-1 overall on the year following the non-conference contest. The Pioneers drop to 1-7 overall following Sunday's game.

Following a corner kick by junior Trevor Fahey (West Deptford, N.J.), classmate Alexander Essandoh (Accra, Ghana, Africa) scored his fourth goal of the season at 11:11 to place Wells up by a 1-0 margin. The Express would strike for two goals in the final three minutes of the first half as freshman Lanfia Diaby (Conakry, Guinea) and sophomore Max Cherry (Ridgewood, N.J.) would each score goals to grant Wells a 3-0 lead at the half.

Diaby's goal, assisted by senior Pat O'Callaghan (Selden, N.Y.), was the very first of his career. Diaby went on to assist Cherry's strike, which was scored with only eight seconds remaining on the clock in the first half of play.

Following an own goal by Alfred State in the middle of the second half, freshman J. Tyler Adams (Eastampton, N.J.) chipped a ball over the visiting goalkeeper's head off of a long pass from senior Adam Sullivan (Ithaca, N.Y.) to conclude the day's scoring.

Freshman Michael Sciotti (North Syracuse, N.Y.) picked up his second victory of the season in goal for Wells, turning aside all three shots on net that he faced. Nick Smith halted 10-of-15 shots on goal for Alfred State, allowing five goals to the Express.

Wells returns to action Friday, Oct. 4 as they face-off against the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College in a 2:00 p.m. road contest.
