Men’s Soccer Racks Up 4-0 Victory Over Keuka

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Sophomore Max Cherry (Ridgewood, N.J.) tallied two goals as the Wells College men's soccer team posted a 4-0 shutout over North Eastern Athletic Conference rival Keuka College Wednesday afternoon. With the victory, the Express improve to 7-2-2 overall on the season and to 2-0-2 in league play. The Storm fall to 4-5-1 overall on the year and to 0-4 in the conference.

Cherry scored the first goal of the game for either team at 33:50 of the first half, forcing home an unassisted strike to elevate Wells to a 1-0 lead. In the 60th minute, freshman Hunter Sowersby (Sidney, N.Y.) forced home a volley from classmate Marshall Kaplan (Trumbull, Conn.) to add insurance for the Express. Senior Adam Sullivan (Ithaca, N.Y.) later scored his first goal of the season at 77:29 and Cherry added his second of the game 1:30 later to conclude the scoring.

Wells goalkeeper C.J. Bayly (Waymart, Pa.) earned the shutout, halting all eight shots on net that he faced. Keuka netminder Preston Vick allowed four goals on 11 shots and was saddled with the loss.

Cumulatively, Wells outshot the host Storm by a 16-to-11 margin despite trailing in corner kicks 9-to-8. The Express are off to their best start in program history and are one win shy of tying their all-time program record for wins in a season.

Wells returns to action this Saturday, Oct. 12 as they host the Wildcats of SUNY Institute of Technology in a 12:00 p.m. contest.
