Four Selected To NEAC All-Conference Squads

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – A program record four players from the Wells College men's soccer team were selected to North Eastern Athletic Conference All-Conference teams, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon. The Express recently completed their best season in program history, recording an 8-4-4 overall record alongside a league mark of 3-1-4.

Senior defenseman Pat O'Callaghan (Selden, N.Y.) earned First Team All-Conference honors while goalkeeper C.J. Bayly (Waymart, Pa.) was selected to the conference's Second Team. Senior Adam Sullivan (Ithaca, N.Y.) and sophomore Max Cherry (Ridgewood, N.J.) each were tabbed as Third Team All-Conference for their performances in 2013. The previous program record for All-Conference winners in one season was two players.

Only a year removed from Second Team All-Conference honors, O'Callaghan rose to the First Team during his senior season in 2013. Appearing in all 16 games for Wells, the team captain scored a game-winning goal and two assists for four points (1-2=4). Defensively, he led all Express players in minutes played while limiting opponents to only 18 goals all season. Against league opponents, O'Callaghan and the Express allowed only six goals on the year.

O'Callaghan recently concluded a four-year career with the Express, playing in 66 career games for Wells, tying him for eighth place in program history in that category. His 14 career points, via five goals and four assists (5-4=14), also rank him eighth in the seven year history of the men's soccer team.

Bayly, a first year team captain in 2013, played the majority of his team's games between the posts for Wells. In 12 games as a senior, Bayly (6-2-4) played in 1,160 minutes and accumulated a 1.01 goals-against average alongside an .849 save percentage. Against the conference's goalkeepers, Bayly posted the fourth-lowest goals-against average and the second-best save percentage. He also racked up a NEAC-leading four shutouts against league opponents.

For his career at Wells, Bayly exits after four years in Aurora with the program records for career goalkeeping victories (24), career goals-against average (1.21) and save percentage (.818) amongst qualifying backstops. His 16 shutouts lead all Wells keepers in team history while his 278 saves rank second in team history.

One of the most consistent players in Wells history, Sullivan served as a team captain in 2013 and posted at least seven points offensively for the third-straight season. Scoring two goals and three assists for seven points (2-3=7), Sullivan ranked fifth on the 2013 men's soccer team in point scoring and provided a steady, veteran midfield presence for the youthful roster. He tallied three assists in five games (0-3=3) from Sept. 14 to Sept. 29 and also added goals against Keuka on Oct. 9 and Cazenovia on Oct. 26.

In 65 career games played for Wells, Sullivan scored eight goals and six assists for 22 points (8-6=22) and ranks third all-time in team history with 22 points. In his career, Sullivan has played in all but one game for the Express, unofficially playing the seventh-highest minutes of any player in team history.

Cherry, a sophomore, had a breakout season in 2013 after sustaining an injury that limited his appearances as a freshman. Cherry recorded a team-leading six goals in 13 games (6-0=12) and was tied for eighth overall in the NEAC in goal scoring. Against league opponents head-to-head, Cherry was fourth overall with five strikes and was one of only eight players in the conference to reach double-digit point totals against NEAC squads.

Scoring two game-winning goals on the season (Sept. 14 vs. Cobleskill St., Oct. 9 vs. Keuka), Cherry concluded 2013 riding a two-game goal scoring streak (2-0=4) after scoring versus Penn St.-Berks and Cazenovia. For his career, Cherry has seen action in 22 games for the Express and ranks second all-time in goals per game in team history (0.27).
