Men’s Soccer Downed By Alfred St., 2-0

ALFRED, N.Y. – The Wells College men's soccer team outshot their opponent by a 14-to-7 margin, but Alfred State College was able to hold on for a 2-0 non-conference victory Saturday. With the loss, Wells drops to 1-2-1 while Alfred State (1-2) picks up its first victory of the year. The Pioneers successfully avenged their 5-0 loss to the host Express on Sept. 29, 2013.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes of action, Antonio Fleming scored his first goal of the season after kneeing home a cross from C.J. Reynolds in the 49th minute. Leading 1-0 after Fleming's strike, Brandon Holley scored an unassisted goal only eight minutes later to elevate the hosts to a 2-0 lead that they would not relinquish.

Wells ripped 14 shots but placed only five on the Alfred State goalkeeper, Nickolas Weir. Picking up the shutout, Weir earned the win between the pipes while Wells backstop Michael Sciotti (North Syracuse, N.Y.) made four saves on six shots.

The Express return to action Tuesday, Sept. 9 as they welcome the Pioneers of Utica College to Aurora for a 5 p.m. contest at the South Athletic Field.
