Sowersby's Double Dip Paces Men's Soccer vs. Penn College

AURORA, N.Y. – Sophomore Hunter Sowersby (Sidney, N.Y.) scored both of his team's goals as the Wells College men's soccer team posted a 2-0 victory over the Penn College of Technology on Sunday at the South Athletic Field. With the victory, Wells improves to 4-3-1 and to 1-1 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. The Wildcats dip to 3-5-1 and to 1-4-1 within the league.

Wells opened the scoring in the 25th minute as junior Max Cherry (Ridgewood, N.J.) sent a nifty long distance pass up toward a streaking Sowersby. Eluding the defense, Sowersby's shot beat Penn College keeper Hector Guerrero to open the scoring. Sowersby struck again only 5:38 into the second half, heading home a long service from junior Alex van Hoekelen (Hazelton, Pa.) to collect his fourth goal of the season.

Cumulatively, Wells outshot the visiting Wildcats by an 11-to-8 margin while both teams earned four corner kicks in the tilt. Both teams placed three shots on goal while Wells converted two-of-three to secure the win.

Wells backstop Michael Sciotti (North Syracuse, N.Y.) halted all three shots on net that he faced. Guerrero allowed two goals on three shots before yielding to Brandon Hevy, who was untested in the tilt's final 39:22.

The Express return to action Tuesday, Sept. 23 as they host Hilbert in a 4 p.m. contest at the South Athletic Field.
