Wells Trio Earns NEAC Men's Soccer All-Conference

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Three members of the Wells College men's soccer team earned placement on North Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Soccer All-Conference squads, the conference office announced on Monday. The Express recently wrapped up their most successful regular season in team history with a 11-5-1 overall record alongside a mark of 7-3 in league play.

Senior defenseman Cody Primmer (Oneonta, N.Y.) was named Second Team All-Conference while sophomores Hunter Sowersby (Sidney, N.Y.) and goalkeeper Michael Sciotti (North Syracuse, N.Y.) drew Third Team All-Conference merits. With three selections in 2014, Wells now boasts 12 total All-Conference honorees dating back to the first year of NEAC play in 2007.

A first-time All-Conference selection, Primmer led one of the strongest backfields in the North Eastern Athletic Conference in 2014. Wells posted its lowest team goals-against average in 2014, allowing an average of 1.04 goals per game (second in the NEAC) while registering a team .838 save percentage. In addition, the Wells backfield combined to post a league-leading seven shutouts.

Having played in 17 games as a senior, Primmer has made 60 appearances for the Express and picked up his first two collegiate points this year. He ranks 13th all-time in games played for Wells and has tallied 53 career starts, 11th all time.

Sowersby led the Express on offense in 2014, scoring seven goals and two assists for 16 total points. Ranking fourth in single-season team history with 16 points, Sowersby ranks 10th in the NEAC in point scoring while his three game-winning goals place him in a tie for fourth place overall in the conference.

His last game-winning goal of the season came in a big spot, lifting the Express to a 2-1 overtime victory against Penn St.-Abington only 20 seconds into the extra frame. Sowersby concluded the regular season with 24 career points, scoring 11 goals and two assists in 33 career games.

Sciotti had a standout season for Wells in goal, posting a NEAC-leading .840 save percentage and a league-best (and team record) seven shutouts (five in NEAC play) in 2014. His 1.10 goals-against average places him second amongst the league's backstops. One of only three NEAC goalkeepers with 10 wins, he led all NEAC players with three NEAC Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week selections in 2014.

Near the midpoint of the season, Sciotti blanked four-straight opponents (Oswego St., Penn College, SUNYIT and Cobleskill St.) to build a shutout streak of 376:12 minutes and allowed less than one goal in nine of his final 10 regular season games on the year. He now has 10 career shutouts in only 20 collegiate games played.

Wells opens the postseason with a North Eastern Athletic Conference First Round home game against the No. 5-seeded Nittany Lions of Penn St.-Abington on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. on the South Athletic Field.
