Cherry, Sowersby Power Men's Soccer Past Wilson, 2-0

AURORA, N.Y. – Senior Max Cherry (Ridgewood, N.J.) led the way with a goal and an assist as the Wells College men's soccer team netted a 2-0 conference victory against Wilson College on Sunday. The Express move to 6-5 overall and to 3-2 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference while Wilson drops to 2-7 on the year and to 2-4 against league opponents.

Cherry scored his sixth goal of the year at 25:11, lifting the Express to the early 1-0 advantage. Near midfield, freshman Jack Pilgrim (North Kingstown, R.I.) sent a ball forward that caught the foot of Cherry, who banged the ball home off the crossbar for the strike.

Junior Hunter Sowersby (Sidney, N.Y.) blasted the ball home at 62:14 to add insurance for the Express. A nifty pass from junior Jesse Constantino (Cincinnatus, N.Y.) sprung Cherry up the right side. Crashing the right post, Cherry sent a pass to his left that was one-timed by Sowersby for the goal.

Wells backstop Owen May (Warsaw, N.Y.) made two saves for the Express while Wilson's Michael Martin made eight saves on 10 total shots faced. The Express outshot their opponent by a 27-to-9 margin and held a 5-to-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Wells returns to action Thursday, Oct. 8 as they face-off against Penn College in a 7 p.m. road contest.
