Men's Soccer Set Back By SUNY Poly, 1-0

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College men's soccer team posted a 1-0 loss to the Wildcats from the SUNY Polytechnic Institute on Saturday. The loss snaps a modest four-game winning streak for Wells, who dips to 8-6 overall on the year and to 5-3 within North Eastern Athletic Conference play. SUNY Poly has won six-straight games, moving to 8-4-1 overall and to 5-2 within the league.

Bazo Coulibaly potted the game-winning goal only 1:58 into the second half, putting the visiting Wildcats ahead for good. Off of a corner kick from Gerard Nappe, Coulibaly got behind the Wells defense and scored near the back post for his first goal of the season. The SUNY Poly defense held the Express scoreless for the remainder of the contest – the last six Wildcats' opponents have not scored a goal.

Wells outshot the Wildcats by a 16-to-6 margin, but the Express only put two shots on SUNY Poly goalkeeper Jesse Yanarella. He earned the victory, turning aside both shots, while Wells backstop Owen May (Warsaw, N.Y.) allowed one goal while making one save. The Express also held a 9-to-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Express are right back at it on Sunday, Oct. 18 as they welcome the Fighting Tigers from SUNY Cobleskill at high noon on the South Athletic Field.
