May Earns NEAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Sophomore goalkeeper Owen May (Warsaw, N.Y.) of the Wells College men's soccer team was selected as the North Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for his stellar performance, the league office announced Monday. May and the Express posted a 2-0 record against NEAC competition this past week.

Across 198:45 of action this past week, May and the Express backfield allowed only one goal on 17 shots faced. On the weekend, May halted seven shots that included two saves in a 1-0 shutout against Bryn Athyn on Saturday and an impressive five stops against a hard-charging Penn St.-Abington squad that was defeated 2-1 in double overtime by Wells.

This season, May's 0.72 goals-against average ranks him fourth in the conference and his .795 save percentage is the fifth-best out of the league's netminders. Across his two-year career in a Wells uniform, May has accumulated an 11-3 overall record between the posts and has a career goals-against average of 0.74.  Across 1,209 minutes played, his career save percentage of .792 is tied for second-best in team history.

Wells, who boasts an 11-6 overall record alongside a NEAC mark of 8-3, returns to action this Saturday, Oct. 31 as they host the Wildcats from Cazenovia College on Senior Day at high noon.
