Wells Men's Soccer Drops Road Game At Ithaca

The Wells College men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 contest Tuesday, Sept. 13 at regional foe and non-league opponent Ithaca College at Carp Wood Field in Ithaca. The Express suffered its first loss of the season, and has a 1-1-2 record. Ithaca is 2-3-0.

The host Bombers got off to a fast start and scored in the 10th minute off of a corner kick. Sam Boylan served the ball from the corner and Nathan Schoen headed in the goal.

In the second half, Wells had two great chances to tie the score. The first came on a sharp pass through the midfield that resulted in a two-on-one rush but a shot from Christian Garavito was wide of the mark. Minutes later, Carlos Valdivieso was in alone on the Ithaca goalkeeper but the onrushing keeper sprinted off his line to make a save on the shot.

Ithaca added a second goal in the 62nd minute to account for the final margin.

Wells goalkeeper Owen May made eight saves. Ithaca held a 20-7 advantage in shots in the game and a 5-2 lead in corner kicks.

Wells returns to action this weekend when the Express returns to North Eastern Athletic Conference play Saturday at SUNY Cobleskill and Sunday at SUNY Polytechnic Institute.
