May, Garavito Earn NEAC Men's Soccer Weekly Awards

In the midst of a five-game winning streak for the Wells College men's soccer team, two Express student-athletes have earned individual recognition from the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Forward Christian Garavito is the NEAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and goalkeeper Owen May is the NEAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 2, 2016.

Both players excelled for Wells during a week that saw the Express win all three of its games, including two against NEAC opponents on the road. Wells won a non-league match by a 2-1 score over Utica at home on Tuesday, then defeated Wilson by a 2-0 score on Saturday and capped the weekend with a 3-1 win at Gallaudet on Sunday.

Garavito had three goals in the weekend conference matches as he opened the scoring in the win at Saturday before striking for the first two goals in a 3-1 win Sunday. Garavito has scored five goals in his last four games, and has seven goals this season.

May was the winning goalkeeper in all three matches. May moved into second on the all-time goalkeeping victories leaderboard at Wells with 19 career wins. Over last week's three games, May made 18 saves, accumulated a .900 save percentage, and a 0.67 goals-against average in 270 minutes of action.

The Express has won five straight overall and is 6-2-2 on the season with a 4-1-1 record in the conference. Wells hosts conference matches this weekend with a Saturday game against Penn College and a Sunday game against The College of St. Elizabeth. Both matches begin at 2 p.m.
