Men's Soccer Cruises To Sixth Consecutive Win

The Wells College men's soccer team scored an early goal and went on to a 3-0 win over Penn College on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Wells Turf Field. Wells improved its record to 7-2-2 overall and 5-1-1- in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Penn College is 2-10-0 and 1-6-0 in the NEAC.

Wells opened the scoring in the ninth minute of play on a corner kick. After the ball was crossed to the front of the net by Junger Vargas, a back-heel shot from Justin Bingham was saved but Adam Whitaker collected the rebound and scored from close range.

The Express added a second goal just before halftime as Tyler Adams had some space in the midfield, dribbled past a few defenders and shot from the edge of the penalty area toward the right post His shot deflected off a Penn College defender and into the net for a 2-0 lead.

The only goal of the second half came in the 67th minute. Jesse Constantino made a pass from the right side of the box and Christian Garavito ran onto the pass and fired a shot past the goalkeeper for a 3-0 Wells lead.

The Express had a 27-4 advantage in shots and a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks. Wells goalkeeper Owen May earned the shutout with one save. It was his fourth shutout of the season.

Wells returns to action Sunday, Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. at home against The College of St. Elizabeth.
