Scoreless Draw For Men's Soccer In Season-Opener

The Wells College men's soccer team debuted its 2017 team and earned a 0-0 draw against visiting SUNY Canton on Friday, Sept. 1 at the Wells Turf Field. The Express held an 18-13 advantage in shots and 12-4 advantage in corner kicks in the scoreless draw.

Express goalkeeper Owen May made nine saves and earned his 13th career shutout. He is second in career shutouts and career goalkeeping victories in Wells program history. His next win will tie program record-holder C.J. Bayly's mark of 24 goalkeeping wins in his career.

Wells had a quality scoring chance in the 63rd minute when Carlos Valdivieso collected a ball in the penalty area and shot over the crossbar. Another chance in overtime fell to Pete Paluch but his effort was saved by the Canton goalkeeper in the second minute of overtime.

Canton accumulated six yellow cards and had one player dismissed with approximately four minutes remaining in the second overtime period. Playing with 10 men on the field, Canton generated some chances in the final minute and saw a shot deflect off the goalpost and out of play in the closing seconds.

The Express returns to action Sunday afternoon at Hilbert College at noon.
