The Wells College men's soccer team earned its first victory of the season with a 2-1 win at Hilbert College on Sunday, Sept. 3. Junger Vargas scored both goals for the Express, including the game-winning goal in the 80th minute. Wells is 1-0-1 on the season and Hilbert is 0-1-0.

After a scoreless first half, Wells went ahead early in the second half. Kevin Schrank swung in a cross and Junger Vargas headed in the goal in the 49th minute. It was the first goal of the season for the Express, who tied SUNY Canton 0-0 in Friday's season-opener.

The game-winning goal, the second of the game for Vargas, came with 10:20 left in the second half. Carlos Valdivieso made a soft pass at the top of the penalty area and Vargas fired in a shot to put the Express back in front.

Owen May made one save and earned the goalkeeping victory, the 24th win of his career, which is tied for the school record.

It was the first-career collegiate victory as head coach for Jim Clementi.
