Owen May Named NEAC Defensive Player of the Week

Wells College men's soccer goalkeeper Owen May earned recognition as the North Eastern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 3, 2017. May made nine saves in a shutout in the season-opener for the Express at home on Friday, a 0-0 draw against SUNY Canton. On Sunday at Hilbert, May made one save and earned the goalkeeping victory.

Sunday's victory at Hilbert was the 24th of the career for May and tied the program's all-time record in that category.

The senior from Warsaw, N.Y. has 13 career shutouts, which ranks second in program history.

It is the first weekly award for May in the 2017 season and fifth of his career. May was the first-team All-NEAC goalkeeper in the 2016 season and earned NEAC Defensive Player of the Week honors twice last year. As a sophomore in 2015, May also earned two Defensive Player of the Week awards and was third-team All-NEAC goalkeeper.

Wells returns to action Saturday, Sept. 9 at Keystone College at 1 p.m.
