Third-Straight Close Loss For Men's Soccer

The Wells College men's soccer team lost a one-goal match for the third consecutive outing as the Express fell 2-1 against Nazareth College on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at the Wells Turf Field. It was the first home match of the season for Wells.

Nazareth took a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute of the contest when a midfielder intercepted a pass from deep in the defensive end of the field for Wells and shot it into the vacated net.

For the second match in a row, Wells rallied from a 1-0 deficit to tie the score in the second half. And for the second match in a row, Christian Garavito provided the equalizer. Wells had a corner kick that was partially cleared by the Golden Flyers. Adam Whitaker touched a short pass over to Garavito outside of the penalty area and his shot from the top of the half-circle went in under the crossbar in the 61st minute. It was the second goal of the year for Garavito.

Nazareth scored the winning goal in the 77th minute and a late push for Wells did not yield another goal.

Both teams had three corner kicks in the match. Nazareth held a 13-5 advantage in shots.

Colton Jaquith had three saves for Wells.

Nazareth's record is 2-1-0 and Wells is 0-3-0.

Wells begins conference play with a North Eastern Athletic Conference match Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cazenovia College.
