STRONG INDIVIDUAL SHOWING FOR SWIMMING ON FIRST DAY OF UNYSCSA

The Wells women's swim team swam five events in the preliminary round of the United New York State Collegiate Swimming Association championship on Thursday. Although the Express would not qualify for the final heat held Thursday night, five different swimmers finished with personal bests.

In event one, the 200 free relay, Ashley Reed, Alexandra Beck, Idolyn Villiotti, and Jacqueline Ross finished with a time of 1:53.09, good for eighth all-time at Wells.

In the 500 Freestyle Colleen Keegan and Tiffany Raymond set personal best. Keegan finished with a time of 6:26.54, shredding four seconds off her previous time, while Raymond finished with a time of 6:50.49, taking over six seconds off her previous time.

Nine different swimmers swam the 50 freestyle. In all eight of the nine set personal best (Caitlin Farris, Chelsea McGowan, Celine Mancel, Kayleen Wilkinson, Samantha Hessling, Alexandra Beck, Ashley Reed, and Jaqueline Ross). Ross not only improved her all-time best time, but also set the fourth best time in Wells history.

The Express will now compete in day two of the three day event. The preliminary round will be held in the afternoon with the event finals being held in the evening.
