MEN’S SWIMMING TAKES 4TH/WOMEN PLACE 6TH AT DELHI INVITATIONAL

(Aurora, N.Y.)─ The Wells College men's swimming team took fourth at the SUNY Delhi Invitational, while the women's team placed 6th Saturday afternoon in Delhi, N.Y. The men's team tied for fourth with SUNY IT with 144 points. Suffolk County Community College took first in the 13 team meet with 231 points. The women's team took sixth with 118 points, while the Fashion Institute of Technology placed first out of 14 teams with 196 points.
 
In men's action, the 200 Yard Medley Relay team swam by Mike Scharvella, Drew Teter, Dan Schilling, and Matt Sleezer took fourth out of 12 teams with a time of 1:52.10. Sleezer also took fourth in the 50 Yard Freestyle, touching the wall with a time of 23.76. Teter took the lone first place finish for the Express, besting a field of 16 swimmers in the 200 Yard I.M. with a time of 2:19.37 nearly three seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Schilling took fifth in the 100 Yard Butterfly finishing with a time of 1:03.77, while Taylor Dunn placed seventh in the same event with a time of 1:04.70. Sleezer rounded out the top finishers for the Express, placing fourth out of 45 swimmers in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 53.25.
 
Gabby Spencer paced the women's team with two first place finishes. Spencer took first out of 39 swimmers in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 26.87 and also took first out of 32 swimmers in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:01.47. Gwenn Lillie placed fourth in the 1650 Yard Freestyle with a time of 23:28.81. Britta Kilbourn placed fifth in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:25.75. The 200 Yard Freestyle Relay swam by Idolyn Villiotti, Lillie, Kilbourn, and Spencer finished third with a time of 1:58.03.
 
Both swim teams will have a lengthy break before returning to the pool Jan. 12 against Marywood University in Aurora. The meet is set to begin at 4 p.m.
