SLEEZER AND 200 YARD FREESTYLE RELAY TEAM SET RECORD IN LOSS TO UTICA

(Aurora, N.Y.)─ The Wells College men's and women's swim team both fell in a hard fought battle to non-conference foe Utica College on Wednesday evening in Aurora. The men's fell team fell 61-34, while the women's team lost 58-37 in the 22 event meet.
 
Wells Freshmen Matt Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y./Gloversville) set his second individual school record of the year touching the wall in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 51.90, besting teammate Drew Teter's (Campbell, N.Y./Campbell-Savona) previous record of 52.13. Sleezer, Teter, Taylor Dunn (Williamstown, Mass./Mt. Greylock), and Daniel Schilling (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) combined to crush the school record in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:36.54, besting the previous time by over half a second and defeating the rest of the field by over three seconds. Teter rounded out the men's action, capturing the victory in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:01.19, defeating the runner-up by over four seconds.
 
In Wells women's action, Gabrielle Spencer (Trumansburg, N.Y./Charles O. Dickerson) nearly broke the 20 year old 50 Yard Freestyle Record of 26.62, touching the wall at 26.64, while defeating the rest of the field by over two seconds. Spencer would also be the only repeat victor for the Express, taking first in the 100 Yard Freestyle, blowing away the rest of the field with a time of 1:11.54, over six seconds faster than the runner-up.  Idolyn Villiotti (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) was the other Express swimmer to take first, capturing the victory in the 200 Yard I.M. with a time of 2:41.54. Rounding out the women's action was the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team. Swam by Spencer, Villiotti, Gwen Lillie (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) and Britta Kilbourn (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville), the team ousted runner-up Utica by a second, finishing with a time of 1:56.32.
 
Wells will back in action on Thursday, Nov. 18 when they take on North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent SUNY Cobleskill in Aurora. There will be short banner raising ceremony to recognize the Wells Men's NEAC Championship Team from a year ago. The Ceremony is set to begin at 6 p.m. with the first event to start immediately after.
