MARYWOOD SETS PACE, DEFEATS WELLS

(Aurora, N.Y.)─ The Wells College men's swim team was narrowly defeated 50-43 by the Marywood University Pacers while the women's team fell 59-34 to the Pacers in the 22 event meet on Wednesday evening in Aurora.
 
Dan Schilling (Centerport, N.Y./Harborsfield) paced the Wells men's team with one of only two individual finishes for the Express; Schilling placed first in the men's 50 yard freestyle, touching the wall with a personal best of 25.07. Schilling also placed second in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.81. Matt Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y./Gloversville) was the other Express individual winner, placing first in the men's 100 yard freestyle with a time of 52.92 while setting the 3rd All-Time school record in the men's 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:03.45.
 
It was also senior day for Wells, who recognized Hunter Harris (Winchester, Ky./St. Andrews School) and Michael Scharvella (Craryville, N.Y./Taconic Hills) for their contributions to the program. Harris placed fourth in the men's 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:12.76 and also placed third in the men's 100 yard backstroke touching the wall at 1:27.56.
 
Scharvella placed second in the men's 100 yard backstroke (1:07.16), third in the men's 200 yard freestyle (1:57.43), and joined Schilling, Sleezer, and Drew Teter (Campbell, N.Y./Campbell-Savona) on the men's 200 yard freestyle team that placed first with a time of 1:37.80.
 
In women's action Erika Bareiss (Clinton, N.Y./Westmoreland) paced the Express with two first place finishes. Bareiss edged out Jessica Fain of Marywood with a time of 1:29.36 to take first in the women's 100 yard breaststroke and then took first in the women's 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:07.93. Bareiss also helped the Express to a first place finish in the women's 200 yard freestyle relay, anchoring the team swam by Idolyn Villiotti (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan), Gwenn Lillie (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam), and Britta Kilbourn (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) with a time of 2:00.89.
 
The Express return to the pool on Jan. 14 against Buffalo State at 6 p.m. in Buffalo.
