Swim Teams To Participate In “Hour Of Power” Event

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College men's and women's swimming teams will be participating in the Seventh Annual Hour of Power Relay for Sarcoma Research on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at the Wells College Aquatic Center. The hour long relay, conducted by schools nationwide, honors Carleton College swimmer Ted Mullin, who died in the fall of 2006 from sarcoma, a rare soft-tissue cancer. Each school participating across the nation will commence the event at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

The event consists of continuously swimming for one hour, using continuous relays of any stroke with the objective of keeping all relays in each lane on the same length. Over 160 teams participated nationwide in the event in 2011 with over 8,000 student-athletes coming together to raise funds for the cause. Funds raised through this event support research at the University of Chicago into the causes and treatment of sarcoma in young people.

The Wells College swimming programs have participated across the past few years and look to involve members of the community this year - those interested are welcome to join the men's and women's swimming teams in the pool to help complete the relay.
