Men’s Swimming Defeats Gallaudet, Edged By SUNY Cobleskill

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The Wells College men's swimming program posted a 65-34 victory over the Bison of Gallaudet University and a 51-49 loss to the Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill Saturday afternoon. Their 1-1 performance on the afternoon moves them to 2-3 overall on the year in head-to-head action while the Express collect their first victory as a team dating back to Sept. 29 of this season against Bard College at Simon's Rock.

Wells collected their first victory of the afternoon in the Men's 200 Yard Medley Relay, with Thomas Laier (East Nassau, N.Y.), Patrick Munroe (Williamsville, N.Y.), Matthew Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.) and Matthew VanArmongen (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) completing their runs with a combined time of 1:55.93. Their time ranks ninth all-time in program history. Laier and VanArmongen finished back-to-back in the Men's 200 Yard Freestyle event, recording times of 2:05.30 and 2:20.30, respectively. Laier's time ranks sixth all-time and trailed his all-time record in the event by just under eight seconds.

Munroe once again found himself a winner in the Men's 200 Yard Individual Medley, recording a field-best time of 2:20.54 in the day's 10th event. He eclipsed his previous personal record time of 2:21.85 and posted the fourth-best result in program history. Continuing his personal hot streak, Munroe captured first place in the Men's 100 Yard Butterfly, turning in a time of 1:02.33. He once again bested his previous career high mark of 1:04.07 and posted the sixth-best time in program history.

In the Men's 100 Yard Backstroke, Laier led the field with a time of 1:04.31 which ranks third all-time in program history while Sleezer went on to place first in the Men's 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:43.15, the fifth-best time in the history of the team.

The Express return to action Saturday, Jan. 12 as they host SUNY Buffalo in a 1:00 p.m. meet at the Wells College Aquatic Center.
