Men’s Swimming, Cazenovia Settle For 59-59 Draw

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College men's swimming team posted a 59-59 tie at the hands of the Wildcats of Cazenovia College Saturday afternoon at the Wells College Aquatic Center. With the tie, the Express conclude their regular season with an overall record of 3-5-1.

The Express posted their first victory of the day in the Men's 200 Yard Butterfly as Patrick Munroe (Williamsville, N.Y.) notched a first place time of 2:22.80 to place him third all-time in program history in that race. In the Men's 50 Yard Freestyle, junior Matthew Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.) posted a time of 23.14, ranking him third all-time in program history.

Munroe drew the tough-luck second place finish behind Cazenovia's Van Scholten in the Men's 200 Yard Backstroke, losing by .62 seconds to Scholten. Munroe's time of 2:22.66 ranks him second all-time in program history. Later in the swim meet, Thomas Dougherty (Greenwich, Conn.) collected a first place victory in the Men's 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:46.43 to place him seventh all-time in that race.

Munroe drew his final first place finish of the afternoon in the Men's 200 Yard Individual Medley, completing the eight lap competition with a time of 2:19.03 to place him fourth all-time in program history.

The Express men, who last claimed the North Eastern Athletic Conference championship in 2009-10, return to action Friday, Feb. 15 as they partake in the NEAC Championship on the campus of SUNY Cobleskill.
