Men’s Swimming Opens Home Slate With Loss To Brockport St.

AURORA, N.Y. – Senior captain Matthew Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.) secured a first place finish within the Men's 50 Yard Freestyle as the Wells College men's swimming team posted a 65-28 loss to The College at Brockport Friday evening at the Wells College Aquatic Center. With each institution participating in the first head-to-head meet of the year, Wells drops to 0-1 overall while the Golden Eagles improve to 1-0 on the young season.

With a time of 23.20 seconds within the 50 Yard Freestyle, Sleezer recorded what would be the third-best time in program history. He fell short of his personal record time of 21.94 seconds, set at the NEAC Championships on Feb. 15, 2013. He also posted a time of 51.11 in the Men's 100 Yard Freestyle, collecting five points for the Express while falling 1.09 seconds behind his personal and program record in the event.

Wells also racked up seven points in the Men's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay as Sleezer led a foursome of juniors that included Shrirang Gupta (New Delhi, India), Alex Lamphear (Springfield, N.H.) and Tyler Fischetti (Weedsport, N.Y.) to a relay time of 1:45.79.

In a pre-meet ceremony, the 2012-13 Wells College men's swimming team was honored after securing their program's second-ever North Eastern Athletic Conference title in the season prior.

The Express return to action Saturday, Nov. 2 as they host the Lakers of Oswego State College in a 1:00 p.m. meet at the Wells College Aquatic Center.
