Sleezer Collects NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week Honors

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Senior captain Matthew Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.) earned North Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week honors for his performance against the Bengals of Buffalo State College this past Saturday, the conference office announced Monday. Despite a head-to-head loss against Buffalo State, Sleezer contributed strong performances for the Express in three events.

After being honored for his contributions to the program in a pre-game Senior Day ceremony, Sleezer grabbed first place in the 50 Yard Freestyle after touching the wall in 23.49 seconds. He later added a silver finish in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 52.26. He was also part of a 200 Yard Freestyle Relay foursome that posted a time of 1:47.68.

Sleezer has now earned NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week honors six separate times since joining the team in the 2010-11 season, the all-time program record for weekly awards. His team's Rookie of the Year as a freshman, Sleezer earned his team's Most Valuable Swimmer award en route to being named the 2013 NEAC Swimmer of the Year. His performance as a third-year swimmer in 2012-13 earned him Wells College Male Student-Athlete of the Year recognition.

He graduates this Spring with the all-time individual program records in the 50 Yard Freestyle, 100 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard Freestyle, 100 Yard Backstroke and the 1,000 Yard Freestyle. He was also part of the all-time top relay squads in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, the 200 Yard Medley Relay, the 400 Yard Medley Relay and the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay.

The Express return to action this Saturday, Jan. 18 as they face-off against Mansfield and Pitt.-Bradford at the Paul C. Duke III Aquatic Center in Bradford, Pa. beginning at 1:00 p.m.
