Lamphear Secures NEAC Swimmer of the Week Honors

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Senior Alex Lamphear (Springfield, N.H.) was selected as the North Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week after a strong performance for the Wells College men's swimming team this past Friday. Lamphear and the Express fell to the Lions of Penn St.-Altoona by a 53-33 score, but the senior's performance in his final home meet was not overlooked.

Lamphear posted two season-high times in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle and the 200 Yard Backstroke, posting a time of 11:48.88 in the freestyle before turning in a time of 2:18.39 in the backstroke. He placed first in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle before a second place finish in the 200 Yard Backstroke.

He will graduate this spring as a four-year member of the Wells men's swimming team. Leading off in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay at the NEAC Championships last season, the Express captured first place in the event (1:41.70). As an individual, Lamphear earned Third Team All-NEAC honors with a strong performance in the 200 Yard Backstroke (2:22.67) that also proved to be the third-fastest performance in team history.

Wells will next compete at the 2015 North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship, held on the campus of SUNY Cobleskill in mid-February. More information about the league championship will be forthcoming.
