Men's Swimming Cops Second At SUNY Delhi Invitational

DELHI, N.Y. – Freshman Arthur Brooks (Morristown, N.J.) registered two career-low times for the Wells College men's swimming team as the Express captured a second place finish at the SUNY Delhi Spring Invitational on Saturday. Earning 238 points on the afternoon, Wells edged the host Broncos from SUNY Delhi by only one point for second place.

Brooks competed in four events on the day, posting personal bests in the 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:15.94) and the 200 Yard Breaststroke (2:47.69) – the latter time was the ninth-fastest in the team's history. He also joined teammates Jordan Johnson (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Keith Davenport (Weedsport, N.Y.) and Austin Heil (Medina, N.Y.) in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay, posting a time of 9:20.00 to capture second place.

Heil had a standout day for the Express, placing second out of 11 competitors in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:03.20. His fourth place time in the 50 Yard Freestyle (24.52) was not only a career-low, but also the seventh-fastest time in program history. He also swam the 100 Yard Freestyle in 55.27 seconds, earning fourth place.

Davenport, competing in his first-ever 400 Yard Individual Medley event, earned second place with a time of 5:43.40. Classmate Lucas Donnenwirth (Frankfort, N.Y.) followed up with one of his team's two first place finishes on the afternoon, completing the 500 Yard Freestyle in 6:17.59.

Sophomore Owen May (Warsaw, N.Y.) had the other first place finish for the Express, completing the 1,650 Yard Freestyle in 19:55.51. Despite that time not being a career-low for May, he finished a dominant 2:01.43 ahead of the second place finisher from Alfred State College.

The Express also saw a career-low time from sophomore Tyler Lewis (Chittenango, N.Y.) in the 50 Yard Freestyle (28.84).

Wells will return to action Friday, Feb. 12 as it competes at the NEAC Championships, held on the campus of Cazenovia College. More information about the three-day meet will be publicized in the coming week.
