Men's Swimming Defeats Cazenovia

The Wells College men's swimming team picked up an 83-42 victory over Cazenovia College in a neutral-site meet hosted by William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y. on Saturday, Jan. 27. It was the final regular-season meet of the season for the Express, who will return to competition Feb. 16-18 at the North Eastern Athletic Conference championships hosted by SUNY Cobleskill.

The 400-yard medley relay swam unopposed as Arthur Brooks, Ian Ronan, Owen May, and Brandon Sprague finished in 4:40.04.

May swam 12:03.33 to claim the win in the 1,000-yard freestyle over teammate Aaron Connolly. May was second (5:49.27) and Sprague was third (6:18.12) in the 500 free.

Sprague won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:17.51.

Ronan was second in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.88 seconds.

Three Wells swimmers competed in the 400-yard individual medley. Brooks was first in 5:26.08 with Richard Ford in second and Shawn Snell in third. Brooks moved up to seventh on the all-time top-10 list in the 400 IM with that event, improving his time by 15 seconds over last season, and Ford's time of 6:01.18 is tenth on that list.

Snell won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:16.81 as the only entrant.

Connolly was second in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:03.29.

Wells took the top-three spots in the 100-yard breaststroke won by Ronan in 1:10.75, ahead of Connolly and Brooks.

The Express was second in the 200 free relay in exhibition.
