Men's Swimming Starts Strongly On Day One Of NEACs

The Wells College men's swimming team opened the 2018 North Eastern Athletic Conference by sending two relays and five individual swimmers into event finals on Friday, Feb. 16, the opening day of competition at the conference championship meet hosted by SUNY Cobleskill. After the first day of the three-day meet, Wells stands in third place.

Wells men qualified second in the 200-yard freestyle relay, and placed second in the event finals with a time of 1:48.13.

Two Express swimmers earned spots in the A Final of the 500 free. Owen May placed second with a time of 5:27.38 and Brandon Sprague was fourth in 6:04.62.

Three men's swimmers qualified for the A Final of the 200-yard individual medley. Arthur Brooks placed third in the championship race with a time of 2:23.66. Brooks' time moved him from eighth to fifth on the all-time top-10 list for Wells. Brooks made a 4.50-second improvement over his previous career best time of 2:28.16.

Richard Ford placed fourth (2:42.08), and Shawn Snell was fifth (2:42.55) in the 200 IM.

The Wells men's 400-yard medley relay took third in the prelims and was second in the event finals with a time of 4:50.20.

Action continues Saturday with preliminary events beginning at 10 a.m. and event finals starting at 6 p.m. Event schedules, results, and webcast links can be found at the championship meet page.
