Two Event Wins On NEAC Day 2 For Men's Swimming

The Wells College men's swimming team had six individual all-conference finishes including two NEAC championship wins in individual events, with two all-NEAC relays and held on to first place in the team standings at the North Eastern Athletic Conference championship meet.

Cazenovia College is the meet host, and the Saturday, Feb. 16 session was the second of three days of the championship meet. Wells has 249 team points and is 32 points ahead of second-place SUNY Cobleskill headed into the final day of the meet.

Aaron Connolly won the NEAC title in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.76 in the event finals. That time ranks sixth all-time at Wells in the 100 breast. Joshua Rose also earned all-NEAC status by taking third in the 100 breast in 1:35.22.

Richie Ford earned the NEAC title in the 400-yard individual medley as he swam unopposed and clocked in a time of 5:42.19, which betters his previous-best time in 10th-place on the record board by approximately nine seconds.

Brandon Sprague was second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:1485. Jose Ramirez took second in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:55.84. Bennett Ervin placed third in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:13.95.

Both of Saturday's relays for Wells took second place. Sprague, Connolly, Ford, and Ramirez finished the 200-yard medley relay in 2:05.22. The 800-yard freestyle relay was comprised of Rose, Ford, Ramirez, and Ervin.

The third day of competition takes place Sunday, Feb. 17 with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. and event finals beginning at 4:45 p.m.
