Men’s Swimming Team Opens Home Season Against Lakers

The Wells College swimming teams paid tribute to Thomas Laier during its season-opening meet against visiting Oswego State on Saturday, Nov. 2.

Laier was recently lost to the Wells Community after being a vital part of its men's swimming team up until his graduation in 2014. The former team captain's name can be found on the Wells College swimming records board in the Wells Natatorium.

Against the Lakers, the Wells College men's swimming team dropped a 59-19 contest. In four races, Wells' men's swimmers took second and third place. Joseph Ramirez had three third-places in those events where Wells finished second and third.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Dale Paine (31.69) finished second and Joseph Romney (40.37) finished third. In the 200-yard IM, Vincent Chen was second with a time of 2:27.58 and Ramirez took third with a 3:26.42 time. In the 100-yard freestyle, Paine (1:12.75) finished second and Ramirez (1:18.43) finished third. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Chen had his second runner-up finish (1:14.32) and Ramirez (1:34.49) was third.

The men's swimming team next hosts Gallaudet University on Saturday, Nov. 9 with a 1 p.m. start.
