Chen Sets 100 IM Record at Cobleskill Tri-Meet

Current North Eastern Athletic Conference Male Swimmer of the Week Vincent Chen broke the Wells College 100-yard IM school record at SUNY Cobleskill that helped the Wells College men's swimming team to an 89-54 victory over Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday, Nov. 23.

The Express ended up splitting on the day during the tri-meet after falling to host Cobleskill by 116-85. Wells collectively outscored its oppositions by a 174-170 total at the Bouck Hall Natatorium.

Overall, the Express finished with four first-place finishes and four second-place finishes. Of the first place finishes, Chen won two individual events along with a team relay victory.

Chen's school record in the 100-yard IM came in at 1:02.17. He nearly repeated that time in winning the 100-yard backstroke at 1:02.02. Along with teammates Dale Paine, Jose Ramirez and Dawson Gerdon; Wells also took the 200-yard medley relay.

Gerdon had the Express' other first-place finish in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 40.87. Ramirez finished with a pair of second-place finishes in the 100-yard IM (1:25.53) and the 50-yard breaststroke (41.26). Rounding out the runner-up individual finishes for Wells was Paine with a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle. The Wells relay team in the 200-yard freestyle also captured the team's fourth runner-up finish.

The men's swimming team will resume collegiate competition on Jan. 11 when they host Buffalo State College.
