SIENA TOPS EXPRESS IN STRAIGHT SETS

GRANVILLE, Pa. – The Wells College men's volleyball team dropped two matches (0-3, 0-3) to Siena Heights and Thiel College on the campus of Thiel Sunday afternoon in Granville, Pa. The two losses drop the Express to 0-3 on the young season.

Caleb Mannix (Chittenango, N.Y.) led the Express with six kills and four digs while Ryan Huggins (Cooperstown, N.Y.) added three kills.

The Express fell 25-6, 25-11, and 25-13 to Siena Heights in their first match of the afternoon. In the first set, Siena jumped out a 3-0 lead until a kill by Mannix off a blocking error earned Wells their first point and cut the lead to two (3-1). Mannix delivered with a kill out of the timeout but nine straight points by Siena put the set out of reach as they cruised to the 25-6 victory.

In set two, an error by Siena and a service ace by Andy Jacobs gave Wells an early 2-0 lead. Siena responded with two points but a ball handling error gave the Express a 3-2 edge.

Siena rattled off an 11-1 run to take a 13-4 lead but, a kill and service ace by Mannix cut the lead to seven (13-6). However, Siena continued to roll outscoring the Express 12-5 the rest of the way to earn their second straight set victory.

Tied 10-10 in the third set, Siena scored six straight points to take a 16-10 lead, however, two attacking errors by Siena kept Wells in the mix until down (16-12) but Siena continued to attack scoring the next four points and nine of the last ten points to earn the 25-13 set win and 3-0 match victory.
