LIONS POUNCE ON EXPRESS

ERIE, Pa. – The Wells College men's volleyball lost 25-13, 25-14, and 25-20 to the Penn. St. Behrend Lions (7-16) on Sunday afternoon in Erie, Pa. 

The Express (1-13) got five kills and four digs from Caleb Mannix (Chittenango, N.Y.). CJ Bayly (Waymart, Pa.) recorded eight assists and seven digs and Andrew Jacobs (Millburn, N.J.) finished with one kill and seven digs in the loss. 

Grant Kocher (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) added six kills with a .500 hitting percentage, while Evan Fullerton (Ambridge, PA/Ambridge) handed out 17 assists and tallied a service ace.

In the first set, Behrend jumped out to a commanding 16-8 lead after kills from Nate Steele (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) and Kocher followed by an ace by Fullerton to force a Wells timeout. The Lions closed out the game on a 9-5 run and a service error for the final point and 25-13 win.

From the opening serve, Behrend did not let the Express into game two and took a 14-5 lead behind two kills from Colin Ingram (Hilliard, OH/Hilliard Darby). The Lions managed 10 kills in the set, including three from Larry Green (Cambridge Springs, PA/Cambridge Springs) and the final point for a 25-14 victory.

Wells managed to keep the third set close with Behrend taking its largest lead at 22-16. Three errors by the Lions helped the Express get within three points at 23-20, but two attack errors by Mannix closed out the match at 25-20.

The Express return to action on March 28 when they take on SUNY IT in their final home match of the season at 7 p.m. in Aurora.
