Lions Tame The Express on Way to UVC Playoffs

Aurora, N.Y. –The Wells College men's volleyball team fell in three sets (25-16, 25-12, 25-9) to the Penn State Behrend Lions on Thursday night in Aurora.  The loss drops the Express to 1-18 on the season while the Lions improve to 9-17.  Caleb Mannix (Chittenango, N.Y.) led the Express with 6 kills on 28 swings.   The Lions were led by Nate Steele and Anthony Capizzi, who both tallied eight kills.

"We passed well at the start of this match, but in the end we just didn't defend well enough to compete," said Coach Gary of the loss.  "Behrend's a tenacious team, and it can get in your head when a team doesn't let a ball hit the ground.  Our young team just couldn't find an offensive groove, and that crept its way into all aspects of our game."

While the Lions have earned a playoff berth in the heavily stacked UVC conference next weekend, this Saturday will be the end of the line for the Express, who would like to finish their first season on a high.  "Hopefully, we've learned what we need from tonight's match, and can come out strong in our rematch with CCNY and NYU Poly on Saturday.  That long ride home will feel much better for everyone if we can come out swinging."

The Express will be playing at NYU Poly at 1:00 and 3:00 on Saturday.
