Farruggia Feted By North Eastern Athletic Conference

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Freshman John Farruggia (Mt. Markham, N.Y.) of the Wells College men's volleyball program was selected as the North Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Volleyball Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for his performance this past week for the Express, the conference office announced late Monday afternoon. Farruggia and the Express are off to the best start in their two-year program history, posting a 4-4 record through their first eight games of the calendar.

Against the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence University, the Express swept both ends of a doubleheader by 3-0 set scores. Farruggia posted 15 total kills (2.50 k/set), 10 digs (1.67 d/set), eight service aces (1.33 sa/set), three total blocks, two assists and 25 points (4.20 p/set) while registering an attack percentage of .346 (15-6-26) through two matches.

He opened up the doubleheader with team highs of six digs and four service aces to go along with five kills and three blocks in a 3-0 (25-3, 25-13, 25-14) victory. He helped to secure the sweep with a team-high 10 kills and a match-high four service aces alongside four digs for the second 3-0 sweep (25-19, 25-17, 25-14) to conclude the day's activity.

Farruggia leads all NEAC competition with .79 service aces per set while also posting .62 blocks per set, ranking him fourth overall in the conference. His 15 total blocks place him third overall in the six team conference.

The Express return to action Friday, Feb. 22 as they host visiting teams in the Wells College Invitational.
