Hernon Tabbed As Defensive Student-Athlete Of The Week

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Sophomore Paul Hernon (New Hartford, N.Y.) of the Wells College men's volleyball program was selected as the North Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Volleyball Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for his performance this past week for the Express, the conference office announced late Monday afternoon. Hernon and the Express are off to the best start in their two-year program history, sporting eight victories on the season.

In four games this past weekend at the York College Invitational, Hernon posted 13 kills alongside only five errors in 35 total chances. Additionally, his hitting percentage (.220) was the highest for any member of the team. His team-best 11 total blocks gave the Express a strong presence on the front line and the sophomore also posted four service aces across the team's four games.

Within the NEAC, Hernon ranks third overall with a .202 overall hitting percentage and fifth overall by averaging 0.67 blocks per set for Wells. In 55 sets this year, Hernon has recorded 37 total blocks - last season, Hernon was the team leader with 36 total blocks in 66 sets played. Cumulatively, his 73 blocks place him first all-time in the team's two-year program history.

Wells returns to action on Tuesday, Mar. 19 as they host the Storm of Keuka College in a 7:00 p.m. contest at the Frances Tarlton Farenthold Athletic Wing. The contest is one of only five North Eastern Athletic Conference games the Express will play on the year – Wells currently sports a 2-0 record against league opponents.
