Men’s Volleyball Dropped By Penn St.-Altoona, 3-1

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Wells College men's volleyball team posted a 3-1 loss to the Nittany Lions of Penn St.-Altoona Friday evening on the campus of Keuka College. With the loss, Wells falls to 3-4 overall on the season while the Nittany Lions (1-2) earn their first victory of the new season. Penn St.-Altoona picked up the win via set scores of 23-25, 25-19, 25-16 and 25-21.

Wells was able to secure the first set by a 25-23 margin but ultimately lost the next three sets. As a team, the Nittany Lions hit .371 after committing only 11 attacking errors on 62 total attacks. The Express committed 24 service errors across the four set match alongside only one service ace. Wells was able to improve from last year's result, however, taking a set off of the Nittany Lions this year after falling by a 3-0 margin to Penn St.-Altoona at home in 2013.

The Express were led by sophomore J.J. Podczasy (Macungie, Pa.) and his team-leading nine kills. Sophomore Derek Nipps (Turnersville, N.Y.) assisted 24 of his team's 36 kills while libero C.J. Bayly (Waymart, Pa.) chipped in 15 digs defensively in the losing effort. Podczasy and freshman Alex Battey (Palmdale, Calif.) each recorded two solo blocks and two block assists while Nipps hammered home his team's lone service ace.

Penn St.-Altoona was led by Daniel Roberts and his nine kills on 14 errorless attacks. Roberts also chipped in with a team-leading 16 digs and four total blocks. Andy Panizzi assisted 30 of his team's 34 kills while Jacob Byers tied Roberts for the team lead with nine kills.

Wells returns to Keuka Park, N.Y. tomorrow morning, facing-off against Sage beginning at 11:00 a.m. before opposing the host Storm of Keuka College at 1:00 p.m. Live Video of the game is available by visiting http://www.wells-express.com.
