Men's Volleyball Nets Two Important NEAC Victories

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Wells College men's volleyball team picked up two important North Eastern Athletic Conference victories Saturday afternoon at the Horst Athletic Center. The Express defeated both Keuka College and Penn St.-Altoona by 3-1 scores, concluding their conference schedule with an 8-5 record.

Wells snuck past Keuka via set scores of 25-19, 22-25, 25-14 and 25-22. The Express handled the Lions 25-17, 25-21, 22-25 and 25-13. Wells now ranks third in conference play with an 8-5 record – with the top four teams making the postseason (and only SUNY Poly and Wells finished with their conference play), the Express will wait for next weekend's NEAC Crossover Weekend at Medaille College to conclude before a potential playoff berth is earned.

Against Keuka, Wells was led by 13 kills from freshman Brannon Perdicho (Victor, N.Y.) and junior John Farruggia (West Winfield, N.Y.). Freshman Scott Litvin (Sayville, N.Y.) and sophomore Liam Kaylor (Falls Church, Va.) recorded 24 and 21 assists, respectively, while libero Jack Battumur (Denver, Colo.) posted 10 digs defensively. Sophomore Alex Battey (Palmdale, Calif.) chipped in with five block assists, leading the team at the netfront.

Versus the Lions, Wells saw a team-best nine kills from Farruggia. Litvin and Kaylor set up 23 and 16 kills, respectively, while Battumur's 16 digs led players from both teams. Kaylor also helped his team serving, notching three service aces for the Express, while ranking second on the squad with eight kills. Perdicho, senior Paul Hernon (New Hartford, N.Y.), Battey and freshman Thomas Bogarowski (Hanover Township, Pa.) tallied seven kills.

Wells set a single-match program record for blocks with 16 against Penn St.-Altoona. Individually, Bogarowski's seven kills was a career-high mark. Hernon also eclipsed 200 career block assists with six against the Lions.

The Express return to action Friday, Mar. 27 as they host the SUNY Polytechnic Institute for a 7 p.m. contest within the Farenthold Athletic Wing. Wells concludes their fourth season as a varsity program with tilts against New Jersey City and Penn St.-Behrend on Saturday, Apr. 4 in Aurora.
